to aid in the marketing of your products!
Have you looked
at the internet and felt overwhelmed? Have you looked through
the business opportunities available and thought you could never
sort out the real money making propositions from the scams?
Have you purchased
most of the books available that say they will make you a success
on the internet and found just another good story by someone
who never sold a thing either through direct marketing or over
the internet? OR... maybe they have sold a lot of stuff, but
their entire site is geared to selling you that newest software
program for just under $1,000 instead of showing you how to roll
up your sleeves and get things accomplished?
Well, maybe they
are making money... but they sure as heck aren't going to tell
you precisely how to do it since you will go out and spill the
beans to every Tom, Dick and Harry... and sell the "Secrets"
at a price that is a third of what they are charging, and then
they could not sell their next piece of expensive software on
the backend to a lot of those people.
Well, you are
not alone. I've spent thousands of dollars and countless hours
on all the latest hype and internet gurus who claim they have
made it so big on the internet... and I always thought that I
could join their ranks in just a few short weeks.
It's not easy
to sort through all this junk and come up with the pearl in the
oyster... they all have a good story... One claims to have made
it with bulk e-mail... another with banner ads... another with
a special search engine placement software that only costs $300
but has a companion software program that costs another $300.
Then the bulk email sender for another $300. After that you must
buy the program that traces all your affiliate programs for another
$900 to $1,000.
Then after you
have spent all this money... you find out that the marketer is
doing millions... well he says he is... but you can't seem to
apply the same principles and make it work. What are all these
supposedly successful internet entrepreneurs doing that you and
I are not doing ? Or are they just shoveling a lot of hype our
way to get us to buy all this fancy stuff that they admit later
doesn't work.
I get so sick and tired of hearing about all the success of the
everyday folks on the internet and yet when I follow those principles
nothing happens.... Have you had this happen to you?
Then you pay
some new JERK a few hundred and he says... Oh no ! Don't do doorway
pages anymore because the search engines are very sensitive to
that and if your meta tags are extended in the same color as
the background of the page reiterating the same old phrases over
and over again... you will be banished for life and never allowed
to breathe another internet breath. But they have a new strategy
that they are sure will make you a millionaire within a few months
if you only cough up another $150 for the latest "inside
Secrets" or software that they are marketing...
Do you get the
idea that you are the only one trying to figure it out... and
everybody else is making millions? I am so fed up with all the
Magic Gurus that get us for a few hundred bucks and then dump
us and try to tell us they are charging $650 per hour for their
consulting services. Maybe they are, but the pigeons that are
buying into this are the same as the VC folks... That's all the
venture capital guys writing checks to the dot com people and
praying that the darn thing will be profitable some day.
Kind of like
Amazon dot com which lost $350 million of other peoples money
last year and still hasn't shown a profit... And that bozo is
considered a hero in the industry... excuse me Bezos is the guy's
name... comes close to bozo though, right? But you and I don't
have a Venture Capitalist with millions of bucks behind us and
we are hoping we can make something work out of all this and
show a decent profit so we can send our kids to college some
day and maybe retire without the aid of Social Security. Either
that or the boss just said... " Get us on the internet as
fast as you can so that we can take advantage of all the great
expansion that everyone is talking about and triple our company
sales overnight and the pressure is on you 'Big Time".
Well, after spending
a hundred or two hundred bucks a piece for so many 'secrets'
books that it made me ill, I finally figured it out... There
are only a handful of guys out there that really know their stuff.
Most of them have been around for a few years... but only a few
years... this internet thing hasn't been around much longer than
that...
Each one seems
to have his own specialty... and they all know each other by
reputation if not personally... By specialty, I mean they each
have a single part of the web down to a science, although some
of them seem to be more in the league of a generalist... but
they all grab onto the other guy's special talents when they
realize the other one has better strategies in a certain area
than they have themselves...
But, unless you
are an old hand at the web, the first thing you need is an overall
view about what website marketing is all about... Actually, it
is the same old game as the 400 year old ' direct marketing '
game... It just has some new applications and some new electronic
aids to help you out... I've spent hundreds of hours researching
this and I have come up with a few books that will help you through
this subject and I can recommend any one of them...
Corey Rudl
has written a book called " The Insider
Secrets to Marketing Your Business on the Internet" ... You get a two volumes in three ring
binders with printing on only two thirds of the page with printing
on one side of the paper only. Some tapes come with the book
and it has some software which I could never get to work.
Corey doesn't
give you the insider info that you would expect... namely.. how
to get loads of people to your site and how to sell them... but
you will get a pretty fair grounding in internet marketing. It's
priced at just under $200. He also sells a bulk mail program
called Mailloop which I do not recommend.
I have one and it has never been able to send mail even to my
8 test addresses in over a year.
Internet Marketing Challenge 2000 may be a group of the smartest guys on the internet...
They have been around from the start and when they decided to
sell their knowledge... WOW... It's no hype they are successful
'big time'...

Matt Gagnon
has a book called ' The Million Dollar Manual
' while Matt has discontinued
his years' worth of "Mentoring" on a personal basis
due to the demands of his new MLM program, he is one of the few
guys who actually answers his own telephone... he probably wouldn't
mind answering a few questions if you were one of his team. Matt
allows you to pay in 3 installments if you like and he sends
you a CD and some tapes in the package. Matt has a unique marketing
idea which I have tried successfully in order to increase traffic
to my website... I will say that it worked very well... Priced
at just under $200.
Milk
the Web
is a successful website and an online book that
the author developed while a student at Temple University.
He has an amazing
record of selling 600 copies of his manual in the first two weeks
after it was launched. He has spent several months researching
the material and with the exception of a few errors in english...
the author is vietnamese... it extremely well done and a great
book for beginning your life 'online'. It is priced at $67 and
is a very good value. Ryan Nguyen also has experience in direct
sales or 'mail order' as it is sometimes called, and after his
success in that, he decided to become an Internet Marketing expert.
Another great resource is the Academy
of Web Specialists. They give courses on just about every aspect of
website design, management, and promotion. It's not exactly cheap
at about $300 a course, but well worthwhile if you are interested
in pursuing the web with more than a casual interest. Click

* This book
gets 5 stars... One
of the absolute best books I have to recommend is "Right
on The Money"
by Patrick Anderson and Michael Henderson, who walk you through
the steps to profitability better than anything I have seen.
Click
Here !!
They have a place where you can sign up for their newsletter
in the page just after you click on the book "Right on the
Money". Subscribe to the newsletter and you will be rewarded
with excerpts from the book... The excerpts are 'fantastic' and
you will probably end up buying the book... It's a great value
!
Now for the moment
let's break down web marketing into some basics...
1) Build a Website
!
2) Create a Stampede of visitors to Your Site ...
3) Inform the visitors... Don't BS them... people have a terribly
short ...attention span
4) Give them Your Story... and Why You are Different... ........It's
called " ...Your USP " ... Unique
Sales Proposition...
5) Give them Great Value and enough guarantees & Bonuses
so that you
...CLOSE
the deal !
6) Make it easy for them to buy... when they are drooling for
it...
7) Track everyone for Future Sales... Yep ! ... Remember, this
sale only
...the beginning...
There are guys
who will hype you to pay 'big bucks' to find out about these
basic principles and then you think you have struck it rich when
you hear all about these pillars of big time marketing...
But... let's
analyze each area and see if we can put some goodies in our little
bag which will help us get through all this stuff... It isn't
'rocket science' you know... But, it does have its own little
' insider tricks' , so to speak. If you already have a website...
skip from Build a Website and move on to... " Search
Engines ".
1) ... Build
A Website .....
Your goal should be to erect a website * Quickly * and *Cheaply*
and get some traffic going to it before you get discouraged and
go off to some other enterprise...
There are several
ways to do this:
a) Hire someone
else to do it... Email us and we will recommend someone !
b) Use an all
inclusive hosting and help solution like
c) Build Your
Own Website...
. Cheapest
Way to Go...
1) Register your
domain name cheaper... $14.95/yr.
2) Get a program
that writes 'html' ... I'll tell you where there are four...
3) Download a
FREE program which uploads your site...
4) Sign up for
a FREE Hosting Service... Pay More if You Like...
5) Learn to do
a FREE Upload of Your Pages to the Webhost
A) There are tons of companies
that will build you a website... just check the search engines
if you need one... If you need a recommendation, just call me,
I'll be glad to recommend someone...
B) Big Step Free Hosting
You can build and maintain a web site using Bigstep.com's service
for free.
You get all of the following:
· Unlimited access to their do-it-yourself web-building
service
· The ability to create an unlimited number of web pages
· 12MB of storage space for your pictures
http://www.bigstep.com/
C ) If you are
really serious about this game, you may want to build your own
site and at least get your feet wet and try to learn something.
I must confess... It's not that difficult and I will lead you
through the steps ... so let's get to it... Remember... I am
going to lead you through the *cheapest* way possible to build
a website and get free hosting... If you want to get a more helpful
and reliable hosting company ... go to "
Virtualis
"...
I highly recommend them.
They have 24 hour 7 day a week service... not many do !
Pick out a '
domain name '. Before you actually do this... you may want to
read the section on Search Engines in order to gain some insight
as to what kind of a name you will want to choose... It's a good
idea to have your product name be part of your domain name instead
of your company name for the benefit of search engine positioning.
In order to 'register' a domain name, you need to go to a company
that is licensed to do so... Network Solutions is the original
one which charges $70 for two years... but within the last year
there have been other companies licensed to do the same thing...
One is RegisterFREE.com
... They
have been very accommodating to me and they are the cheapest
that I have found at $14.95 for one year...Their site is RegisterFREE.com and you should look up
the domain name you would like on their webpage to see if it
is available. If it is... you may register it for $14.95 for
a year. I've seen some cheaper deals recently... like ten bucks,
but this is one I've used and I can recommend it.
Now , let's get to building your website... There are two programs
that I can recommend..
1) Microsoft's "Front Page" and 2) Adobe's
"Go
Live 5.0"...
At the moment I use the Adobe " Pagemill " and have
been very satisfied with it. However, it has been discontinued
and replaced with a superior product... so not to stand in the
way of progress... Adobe has created a new upgraded product which
is called Go Live 5.0.All of these products are "WYSIWYG"
which means " What you see is what you get"... You
can buy Front
Page
or Go
Live 5.0
or there are two other programs you may want to check out...
Dreamweaver and Hot Dog.You can get "Hot
Dog Pro" for under a hundred bucks and the beginning "Hot
Dog Junior" for under $40.
You may even
have a program that came with your computer called "Front
Page Express"... which is a scaled down version of "Front
Page" or one from Netscape called "Composer".Check
on your PC under "Programs" and look for "Internet
Explorer" and 'Netscape Communicator", then look down
the list under each one and you may find one or the other. On
my Compaq Presario which is about two years old I have both programs
which came with the computer.
Pagemill and Front Page have one major drawback.
If you are joining an affiliate program and the affiliate company
gives you an "affiliate tracking code " in html to
insert into the webpage... you must insert the code given to
you in your webpage by using windows explorer and *Not* within
Pagemill or Front Page since these programs tend (not always)
to change the code you have entered. Otherwise they work very
well...
PS... Both companies are aware of this little problem and may
have corrected it at this point in time.
What this tells
you is that at some point in time it will be important that you
learn a little bit of the html code that is used to write web
pages. HTML is the name of it and it means... hypertext markup
language. In the event that Microsoft and Adobe have corrected
this flaw in their updated editions... I stand corrected ! You
will find this out in a hurry if you arrive at the position of
needing to accomplish this feat and are unable to make it work...
HTML isn't that difficult, and much to your surprise, you will
end up using your WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get) editor
most of the time... but in a few instances where you need to
copy code and insert it into your page, you will know where to
put it. A great tutorial on HTML is to be found at: www.davesite.com/
OK, we have purchased an html program and written a few pages
for our website and now we have a two or three page " Website
" to put up on a " server " . Let's take a look
at the next step... We need a server and we need a program to
put it up on the server... So for hosting we now go to a freebie
server called Virtual
Avenue... and register for hosting a site... Click on "Free
Hosting Service" on the right side of the page... Then click
on "Join" ... Fill out the form and include the name
you registered with "RegisterFree" as the subdomain
name... Then click on the radio box that says "Transfer
an existing domain Name" ... Yes ! We already registered
"mydomainname.com" with RegisterFree, right?
We then end up
with a name like "mydomainname.virtualave.net" (mydomainname
is the one you registered with "Register Free "). However,
until you transfer the domain name to Virtual Avenue, you must
access the site by the name "mydomainname.virtualave.net"
.
You will then
receive an email from VirtualAve that says they only have access
to registrations at Network Solutions and if you want to transfer
a registration from another company, you need to give the "server
information" to whomever you registered with... So the next
step is to email the server the "server info" that
Virtual Ave sent you to "RegisterFree" and they will
take care of it... if you have trouble, just address the email
to "Lauri"... she's great...
Virtual Ave will
then send you an email that says "Welcome to VirtualAve"
... with instructions as to what to do next... Hooray ! You are
"finished" with setting up your site.
Still with me?
Now that you have a website without any webpages on it... Let's
see if we can find a program that will upload the pages to your
new website... Let's go to Ipswitch at WS-FTP and download a FREE
FTP program... You must look down the list on the right hand
side and find the WS-FTP LE 5.08 program, check the radio box
for that model, and download the software to your computer. You
can get the Pro Model if you really get into this stuff. For
now, let's just concentrate on getting you a cheaper website
and get you moving... By the way... FTP just means File Transfer
Protocol... and LE means Limited Edition... Ipswitch will attempt
to convert you to the Pro model at a later date, but for now
you just need to get started.
So now we download
their free program... and upload the pages of the website that
you have made to the VirtualAve server. Make sure that you designate
your domain as "mydomainname.virtualave.com" within
WS-FTP even though you access it on the internet as "mydomain.com"
OK? In the WS-FTP window you will notice that it is set up so
that there is a left hand side and a right hand side. On the
left will be shown the files in your computer... On the right
will be shown the files that are on the VirtualAve Server. Make
sure that you *double click* on the *public files* before you
transfer the pages in your computer from the left to the right
by clicking on the arrow that aims them in the proper direction.
If you fail to *double click* on *public files* the pages won't
show on the internet. OK?
Hey, that's it
... You are Done !! ... Run a test by entering on the internet
"mydomainname.com" to see if it works... You can now
celebrate for a couple of minutes... You actually have a site
you can view on the internet... Just one more thing...
Generate Traffic...
Create A Stampede...
... The Search Engines... Sorry... There's no other Way...
Remember the Kevin Costner Movie about how he built the baseball
diamond in a cornfield in the middle of Iowa ? There was a mysterious
voice that would come to him and say "If you build it, They
will come".
Well, putting up a webpage is kind of like building something
in a cornfield in the middle of Iowa... But, if you build it...
They WILL NOT come... Trust me... They will come only if you
drive them to it... Remember... Donald Trump runs a shuttle from
New York to his Casino in Atlantic City... Yes, ' The Donald'
knows they will come only if you "give them a ride"
!
So, "How
do we get them there" ?
The Number One way on the Internet is the "Search Engines"
or 'Directories'. For practical purposes let's just call them
SE's. According to the statistics, they will provide 85% of the
traffic to your site. "They Cannot Be Ignored". I have
submitted to SE's over and over again when I first started on
the Web... without success. It's not easy! You cannot just throw
up some stuff on the Net and submit and expect the SE's to list
you. It will never happen...
I should note
here that there are 68 other ways to drive people to you website...
Maybe even 168 ways...There are even articles that will tell
you that that trying to win the SE Wars is an impossible feat
and you should just give up and go try the other means of generating
traffic since it is such a hassle to land it big with the SE's...
that you can ignore the SE's and end up in the top ten without
trying... That is true... for the sites that have been around
for a while... But not you... You are the ' Newbie ' and you
must fight the SE Wars this year... Then, once you have been
around for a while and the SE's have had your info for a while...
then you can choose to ignore them if you like. This year, it
is our job to get your name out there and make sure you are well
known... Then next year you can do what you like...
So let's get started... There is a guy named Stephen Mahaney, who has made
a career out of analyzing the SE's and Directories. His Company...
Planet Ocean Communications has a book called "
The Unfair Advantage Book on Winning the Search Engine Wars" for $97.00. You will
also receive six month's of the monthly newsletter... This is
an " absolute must"... Get it and follow directions
precisely... You will thank me ! The newsletter will improve
your site's positioning with the individual Search Engines and
may even get you listed in 'Yahoo'... where everybody wants to
be... 'cause Yahoo supposedly provides about half the traffic
from all the SE's ...
Planet Ocean's
program
works on the basis of submitting pages to the SE''s based on
'keyword density'. This means that you want to have a certain
percent of the words you have chosen as 'keywords' as a part
of the story you have written on your webpage... Some months
the keyword density is different than others so you need to count
the words and the keywords. Planet Ocean has even developed some
software to help you in counting the number of 'keywords' in
relation to the total text you have written. Planet
Ocean also has a Direct Electronic Marketing Course.
Being 'tops'
in the the Search Engines is a 'must'. A company that helps gain
top Search Engine billing just sold for $95 million. That should
tell you how important it is...
If you are too
broke to go for the Planet Ocean stuff... or refuse to knuckle
under to the pressures of the internet's 'You must have this'
stories...
Here are a couple of tips... 1) Make sure you include your 'keyword'
in the title ! This can be said for every search engine you submit
to... 2) Submit only your main page to Yahoo!... they only allow
one page per site to be listed in their directory... How to get
around this? Well, be creative ! No one says you can't have a
seperate site for each important page... 3) Submit only 1 page
to AltaVista each 24 hours... otherwise they blackball you...
With regard to 'keywords' you should make sure that you sign
up for the 'Free
Weekly Top 200 Keyword Report' from "WordSpot".(Sign Up: Upper Right
Hand Corner). They give you a review of all the latest hot 'keywords'
which may not be relevant to your product... However, if a word
shows up that is beneficial to you... Use It Quick... Bingo !!
You may have hit the jackpot...
You can also use a Free
service provided by 'GoTo.com' which will allow you to request the
number of hits last month in their directory for any ' keyword'
that you enter. It also gives you a list of similar 'keywords'
that you may use and the number of hits each one had the previous
month... GoTo.com is a Search Engine which you pay for each click
to your site. You submit a bid for the position you want and
it is a very successful way to advertise. Just be careful that
you only choose words that are relevant to your product or service.
Microsoft has
a FREE service which will give you a quick result on the prices
being paid for any ' keyword' in GoTo. You can just make an easy
check on the top few words to see whether you can get for a decent
price. Click
Here !
I have had quite
good success generating traffic with GoTo. I receive about 3,800
click throughs a month at a cost of around $100.00 simply by
taking a position just below the more expensive bids. The key
to my low cost is that I am never the #1 ranking for the ' keyword'...
but I am very close. For one of my ' keywords', I have the #
4 ranking for 3 cents when the Number 1 ranking is paying 32
cents. Note: GoTo has raised their minimum bid to 5 cents as
of 3/1/01. So we need to revise our thinking. However, there
are dozens of other 'pay per click' engines.
Another important
point is that I have chosen ' keywords' that are not as relevant
as they could be for my 'sales proposition' so that while I am
generating good traffic, I have not had the sales I would hope
for as a percentage of click throughs. I would be well advised
to
' target' my ' keywords' more carefully. However, I am reluctant
to give up the traffic in hopes that the 'click throughs' may
some day become customers if they get enough information and
gain confidence in the editorials on the site... More info on GoTo
. com
Based on GoTo's
research, if you include your keyword in your title and description
it will often increase your click-through rate by as much as
50%.
Try it... You may be surprised by the results... Good Luck !!
I just received
an email that as of the 1st of March 2001, Goto.com has a minimum
bid of 5 cents... I was not happy to hear about it, but hey,
it's their business. This means that my advertising costs with
Goto will just about double. However, there are lots of other
pay per click sites that you can use if you are getting started
which have a 1 cent minimum. I get about 1,000 hits a month from
'findwhat'.
You should make
sure you have your "keywords" in the following places
if you can:
domain name &
the URL
page titles
meta tag
headlines at the top of the page
beginning and ending of paragraphs
links leading to other pages
Once you achieve a top position with
the search engines, you need another program to monitor them.
You can do it by looking the pages up individually, but Its important
to track whether your pages are moving and in what direction.
From this you will be aware of what type of page the SE's think
is ' fashionable' this month.
Download a copy of Web
Position Gold
it is a software that can save virtually a third of your time
by automating the the checking of your ranking with the Search
Engines. Just ask WebPosition for a reading and it checks in
with all the major search engines with as many keywords and phrases
as you like and it gives you the results of where you rank.
WebPosition Gold also comes with several
other side programs which aid in search
engine positioning. One feature is the individual page performance
feature which shows how a single page is performing across different
search engines. It is handy if you've created a super page that's
performing well in several engines. You can copy the page and
submit it to other SE's and see if it takes off there too.
If you want a

Now before we
leave the SE's completely... You should know that the old submissions
to classified ads which were so popular until the advent of software
which put everyone into the ads in seconds by just a click of
the mouse... are back... Why you say ?? Well, the idea is that
the continued classified submission will 'Improve Search Engine
Positioning " Yup, believe me... The SE's pick up on this
stuff and jump you up the ladder... Plus... you may find sites
that have been indexed with your classified ad and maybe with
your link on them. Hey, you just submit that page with your ad
on it to the search engines and you get more exposure. Sound
Crazy ? Try out the idea before you toss it out...
Get some good
automated submission software. Try
the Trellian Classify 98... It's a good one... Submit your site weekly
to the classified advertising sites with relevant keywords that
fit with your site. Keep checking your position and your link
popularity weekly. Like we say on the sports field... "
If its working ... don't change it... if not...
try something else"...
Send Them
Your Message...
This may be the most difficult part of all. The technical part
is easy to follow and you just do what the ' guru's ' recommend...
Now comes the hard part... You must do what the internet was
designed to do at the outset. You must provide *Information*
without ' boring ' your reader. And after you provide the information
that should be ' unique ' to your site, you must present them
with your 'USP' or your 'Unique Selling Proposition'. Your USP
is the "key" to success in any "direct" marketing.
The internet just aids you in reaching a greater number of people...
There are guys that
have made careers out of this talent and some even have started
' big time' advertising agencies. Others have preferred to 'stay
small' and may have done just as well financially. On the internet,
we are lucky to have a few, and the one that I highly recommend
is a ubiquitous guy who you may have heard of or run into before...
Marlon
Sanders...
As the story goes... Jonathan
Mizel,
one of the original internet marketers got a late night call
from what he termed as ' a strange guy from Dallas ' who told
him he should change a few things on his website. Fortunately,
Jonathan was not offended by Marlon's remarks... and he made
the suggested changes... Well, sales zoomed... Needless to say
they became fast friends... and Marlon became a folk hero...
About Marlon,
I can only say... I wonder how quickly you are going to
buy his book.
Marlon has a
marketing course... "The
Amazing Formula. Priced at $97.00. If you get anything from this
page... Get this... "You must get the course and read it
and reread it and follow the golden steps to success"...
You also get a 12 months subscription to his newsletter... Twister
Marketing...
Then you tell me "I'm not a writer"... I can't
come up with these "killer sales letters"... I just
sit and look at a white page and my mind is a complete blank...
Well, if you want to write a killer sales letter in record speed,
but don't want to struggle with finding the right words, get

Merchant Account
Collect Money OnLine... You need to make it easy for people
to pay you for your product or service "on-line" with
either a credit card or a check... There is only one way to to
make this happen... You need a "Merchant Account"...
I highly recommend the services of Total
Merchant Manager
Try them out ! You'll like their service...
You may also
want to try PayPal... A link to them is
included...
PayPal merchant accounts.
Unless you want to start out with associate programs only...
which isn't such a bad idea, if you don't have a product. You
need to find a "Merchant Account" which will make it
easy for your customers to buy... By the way, even if you get
your own account... You may want to sell a few affiliate programs
on your site just to bring in a little extra income and to generate
a bit more interest to your website. Don't get carried away and
do too many and make it a zoo... Just enough to enhance what
you are selling...
Declan Dunn
How about the product you are marketing? Is it a product that
you control? If not you may want to rethink your product line...
Is it something you can deliver digitally? It sure makes it a
lot easier if you have one that can be easily delivered and that
you are able to control.
Whether you have a product or not... you definitely should read
the books by "Declan Dunn".His
book "Net Profits ... How to Win the Internet Game" is a sheer masterpiece
of information.
Declan Dunn lives in a small town in Northern California...
Chico... Aside from Chico State College... there is nothing going
on there... My mother was a professor at the College and I used
to work for the local Architect in Chico... it's a great place
to raise kids... which means that they can't get into trouble
'cause there's not that much to do. Well, Declan didn't have
anything else to keep him busy so he turned to the internet and
he has more than excelled. He is the Number One 'guru' on the
subject of 'Affiliate Programs' and rated in the top three by
"Allan Gardyne"... the 'associates programs' expert...
You should read his stuff for sure because you will either want
to join an affiliate program... or sooner or later you will want to
create one of your own...
Many people do
both. So, don't overlook that possibility. If you are a sole
practitioner... you can't do it all... and maybe your own program
will be aided and abetted by another product you don't own or
control...

Opt-In Email
The "opt-in" email list folks are now touting it as
the greatest new gig on the internet. Some of the ace marketers
are trying to convince us that "opt-in" email advertising
is even better than getting listed with the Search Engines...
Well, I wouldn't say that, but it certainly has merit. There
are lists of people that have ezines and newsletters that will
include your ad in their ezine or newsletter for a price. Many
have 'advertising rates' that they publish just like newspapers...
others are completely negotiable... It's a big 'free for all'
. Well you get the idea. Yes, opt-in is a great idea... but remember,
it's only one of the many ways of advertising your site.
Another method
of dealing with the list holders is so-called "partnering"
with another person or company... Someone who has a LIST.....
Not always can you make a deal for a percentage of the profits...
but it's worth a try. Perhaps you can find someone with one of
the smaller lists. I once talked to someone who tried their product
with 138 list holders and 28 took her up on it. The 28 worked
out well and the product generated terrific sales... Try it...
It may work for you...
The beauty of
'opt-in' email is that you can generate your own list... Yes,
you can become one of the sought after folks who have a list
where others want to advertise. You just set up an auto-responder
on your website which will send them a FREE report if they sign
up... collect names and you will soon have your own list. With
your own list, you can market backend products to your people
several times a year. Once they gain confidence in you, you will
be amazed at the response...
In order to collect
names, you can get a FREE auto-responder at getresponse.com... Just click on "Free
version" on the left hand side... and you are set... Your
auto-responder shoots them the FREE report when they sign up
and you get their 'name and address'.
Tracking
OK... Now you are up and running... Your next project is to Track...
Track... While I used to recommend a tracking site, I now recommend
you use the the tracking software provided by the Virtual Avenue
Hosting folks. It is much more accurate and dependable...
That's it...
Now It's Up To You....
One of the basics you should learn in direct marketing is that
of the importance of a satisfied customer... or client... What
we want most in sales is to have people who actually "love"
us so much that they send us unsolicited letters and emails that
tell us how great we are... Those people are the ones that make
up the backbone of a business. They stay with us year after year
and keep coming back to buy our quality products... The keywords
then are "Under Sell" and "Over Deliver".
That's right...
the marketers that "Oversold and Underdelivered" are
long gone and they can't come back... They stepped over the line
and they lost the confidence of the people who were most important
to them... the clients themselves.
So... the idea
is that you can have our cake and eat it too... You can start
out by working with affiliate programs getting some experience
and then you move on to something you know and can control...
Your own in-house product. What better situation can you hope
for ....
